Spinach Dip Recipe & KitchenAid Mixer Debate

Hello everyone,

I figured it was time for me to share my spinach dip recipe since I make it basically every week - especially around the holidays. It's also been a favorite of mine, Mr. G's, and pretty much all of our friends for the past few months. It's really simple to make, and it tastes SO GOOD. I originally got the recipe from my Betty Crocker Cookbook app, but I tweaked it a little and my version is actually healthier. Here it is:

Creamy Spinach Dip

Ingredients:
  • 1 box (9 oz.) frozen chopped spinach (preferably Green Giant)
  • 1 8 oz. container sour cream (I use fat-free and actually prefer the taste)
  • 1 cup mayonnaise (again, I use light)
  • 1/2 tsp celery salt
  • 1/2 tsp dried dill weed
  • 1/4 tsp onion salt
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1/4 cup chopped yellow onions
To make it, first cook the spinach according to the package directions (I usually boil on the stove). Then mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl, cover it and let it sit in the fridge for about an hour. That's it! You're done.

Now I need some advice...

I want to buy a KitchenAid stand mixer for my birthday in February, but I'm torn between getting a tilt-head or a bowl-lift. Both of the ones I'm looking at are similar in price, so basically I'm choosing between power and convenience... Here are the two I'm down to (I would get either in silver):

Tilt-head: KitchenAid Artisan series (5-quart glass bowl, 325 watts)

Bowl-lift: KitchenAid Professional series (5.5-quart bowl, 575 watts)

Stand mixer owners/aficionados - let me know your thoughts. I'm leaning toward the Artisan, but I'm not 100% sold.

Thanks!

  1. I have an Artisan with the head-tilt, and I'm in love with it. I don't know how much use I can be, though, because I don't know anything about the bowl-lift nor have I ever seen one. What I can tell you that might be of some help in your decision making is that Michael's mom has an Artisan that she bought in 1990 that she still uses and it is still in amazing condition. You would never know it was 21 by looking at it.

I have a spinach dip post written up and saved that I haven't posted yet! (I thought I'd save a few for when school starts and I get too busy to write them.) Great minds think alike. Also, too funny. Mine is totally different than yours. I'm going to have to try yours... I bet they are both equally good!!! Mine is ADDICTIVE. (Or is ALL spinach dip addictive? That *might* be the case.)

  2. Cool, I've heard quite a few people now say that their Artisans have lasted a long time, which is good to hear. I think that's probably what I'll get. Plus it looks nicer. :) I think the bowl-lift is more popular with pro bakers since it's more powerful and has a bigger bowl. It's clunkier, though, and not as easy to use. For what I need, the Artisan should do just fine. The only reason I was looking at a bowl-lift is because it's on sale right now at Costco haha.

And that's so funny about the dip! I'll have to try out your recipe as well. I'm sure I'll love it - I'm obsessed with spinach dip in all forms.

  3. Clunkier? Girl the one I have is clunky enough. I wish I had enough counter space to leave it on the counter all the time so I didn't have to move it back and forth. Its suuhhhh heavvyyyy
